About the Position
Position # 236
OrganizationAlzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories
Position Community Dementia Ambassador - Community Dementia Ambassador Project
Impact Statement Almost 50,000 Albertans are living with a dementia diagnosis —and that number is growing. In simple terms, dementia is when someone is having more and more trouble remembering, concentrating, making decisions, and learning new things. The more this illness is understood and the sooner it is diagnosed, the greater the ability of individuals and families to access the right resources when they need them.
Description Ambassadors will join our network of volunteers, trained and supported by the Alzheimer Society, to make a difference in your community and for people affected by dementia.
Ambassadors will learn about the dementia supports and services offered in Alberta and how people in your community can access them.
Ambassadors will share information and resources on dementia with people in your community by connecting with seniors’ groups, attending events, and talking with seniors, their families, and care partners.
Training Details An initial orientation and training will help you learn about dementia and your role as a Community Dementia Ambassador.
Working Conditions We are seeking a time commitment of a few hours a month to actively meet with seniors (virtually or in-person) and a few hours set aside each quarter to participate in ongoing training, connect with other volunteers, share your insights and experiences so we can continually improve the program.

We welcome community-minded individuals, 18 years of age and older, who care and are willing to learn about dementia, and enjoy connecting with people.
