Description
Help build confidence and keep children safe in our community by volunteering to assist with the Home Alone Safety Program. The program is offered 1 - 2 times per month and is a 4 hour commitment for volunteers. Sessions are held on Saturdays, school holidays or school PD days. Volunteers can choose scheduled program dates that work for their schedule. Background checks are required for program support assistants.
Volunteers duties include: Light cleaning/sanitizing Welcoming children as they arrive and ensuring they sanitize, have a mask and have passed the COVID screening. Directing Children to their table Hand out and pick up papers Sharpen pencils Assist children with reading/comprehension Assist with crowd control Assist with set up for program Assist with clean up after program Other related tasks.
First aid training is not required but is an asset.
Training Details
Orientation with Executive Director in advance of first program session. Job Description provided. On-the-job training.
Working Conditions
Mainly indoor classroom setting. Masks are required at this time due to COVID. A short period of time outdoors, occasionally, if weather permits. A combination of standing, walking and sitting. Work as a team member with the program facilitator.
Program sessions occur once to twice per month. Volunteers would be expected to assist with a minimum of 4 sessions per year. Each session would have a minimum volunteer commitment of 4 hours. Extra volunteer time is available if the volunteer is willing to assist with more of the set up and or clean up for the program.
